Really irritating connection issue.

Alright, so I just formatted, and re-installed all my drivers, got everything setup nice and good, but for as long as I can remember and no matter what I do...My wireless connection has been garbage.

I'm using a Linksys Wireless PCI Network Adapter, connected to a WRT54GS LinkSys Wireless G router downstairs. My latency always goes up, and then returns to normal for a short time. Ventrilo lags no matter what, in most online games I get rubber-band latency issues, and every other day my connection will be slow to respond.

Some days it's good, some days it's trash. I'm sick of it, I wish it would just remain consistent. Thing is, it's only consistent as far as down speed. I can get anywhere between 50-100+kbs. Torrents, games, and other applications seems to be affected by rubber-band lag though.

I don't get it, my Firewall isn't interfering, I don't think my PC is at all cluttered or infested with any malicious software...What the heck is going on? Please help!

Did you try changing channels on the wireless router?

What should I change it to, it's currently at channel 11.

I'd try channels 1, then 6 first. If none of them improve it, we may be tilting at windmills.

Alright, I'll give those a shot. It's weird, isn't it? Two other family members of mine run off the same router, one of my sisters has a Netgear adapter on her Windows XP Home, and my older sister's Laptop has an adapter built in, she also runs Windows Vista Home Basic.

None of them torrent, as far as I know.

If changing the channel was not effective try updating the firmware of the router. Wireless device such as cordless phone can interfere the wireless connection too. So you have to consider it too. Opening the ports of the router for your torrent will also resolve the problem the downloading speed.
