Re: what is cross cable

You'd buy a hub or switch, you can't use a crossover cable for other than a 1:1 connection between two computers.

Re: what is cross cable

Keep in mind the physical number of ports there are for you to connect things. If each PC has one standard network card, and therefore only one physical port (RJ45), you'd be hard pressed to connect four PCs together.

Get a switch or hub as John recommends. You can get a 4-port switch for ~$30, or hub for ~$10, so the expense is negligible.

Actually, about half that, including shipping.

Re: what is cross cable

What can I say, I'm a sucker for popular name-brand appliances. I don't like fussing over Network Appliance Xtreme Plus by Company Unpronouncable.

This, however, does not mean I buy Nike shoes. Just Nike network appliances.

Then again, even Company Unpronouncable can't screw up on a soho switch.
