Wifi Free Spots for wirelss conncetion

I have my laptop set up for wireless connection from my desktop via linksys. It works great for internet access while at home, but I would like to be able to take my laptop to work, but have no signal to log onto. A friend of mine sayys her husband gets on by a free signal by satillets. So he's getting on by what ever the strongest signal there is at that time. I tried to check it out, but it looks like I need some card. I am totally ignorant when it comes to this stuff so I don't know what its called or what it is I want. All i know, is taht I want to be able to conncet to the internet via free "whatever its called". its not broadband,or dial up. Wirless card??? I really hope someone out there knows what teh hell I'm trying to say

Re: Wifi Free Spots for wirelss conncetion

Since you already have wireless capability, if you don't see any wireless networks at work, there aren't any in range. There are no free satellite wireless networks that I've ever heard of.

I doubt it's free, but what your friend probably has is one of those Verizon/Sprint/etc cards that allows you to connect to the Internet over their network... It's not free though, if that's what it is.
