Making a computer act like a switch

Is it posible to make a computer act like a switch? Whet I want to do is connect a PC with two network cards in a network and make it looks like there's no PC at all, that is, all the traffic that comes from a given network card be transmitted through the other and vise versa. Is it possible to do such a thing?

Is there a program to do it? Do I have to deal directly with the Device Drivers? / the OS Kernel?

Thanks in advance, any help... or clues will be appreciated.

(BTW: Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this)

Re: Making a computer act like a switch

You can make a computer function as a software router in that fashion.... why would you want a switch like that? If all you need is a basic switch, it's going to cost you about $30 @ Best Buy or something...

Ethernet switches are $10 and up.
