Re: lan connection

How did you install Windows on the new hard disk? You need to install all the chipset, network, sound, video drivers, etc. for a new install.

Re: lan connection

Start, Run, devmgmt.msc

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Also, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: lan connection

okay i have the old HD in at the mo and when i transfer it back to new i will follow your commands thanks , i was told by a local pc repair shop that i can just put a new network card in for £5 and that should sort it out , any idea if this would be a viable option ? for reconnection .thanks for the replies so far . Also as far as i recal there was a few yellow ? with ! next to them as well but mostly for my digital camera and other usb devices such as webcam and mp3 player .Actually looking at the network adapter in device manager now there was no network adapters there but other was highlighted in yellow
contained all the ?&! when i opened it .

Re: lan connection

Since the NIC works with the existing Windows installation, I can't imagine why you'd need to replace it.

All the yellow errors in Device Manager indicate you have NOT loaded the chipset and other drivers for the machine, which is the basic issue.
