Connecting to NETGEAR

I have a Linksys Wireless-G Network Adapter 802.11g. My signal is so weak I have frequent disruptions. However, I am also picking up a very strong Netgear signal but can't seem to use it. The connection is not secure. Can I access this with the Linksys or do I need a Netgear adapter?
