Cat 5e installation question
I was just wondering if anyone can help me. I'm wanting to install some cat5e cable from a port upstairs and drilling a hole running it outside and then drilling a hole downstairs and bringing it in through that way since my walls are already drywalled. My question is will the cold alberta winters here in canada affect the cable if it is outside or will it not work. I tried to look up spec's of the wire and see if there was a temperature rating but I couldn't find any information. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks in advance

Re: Cat 5e installation question
You need UV resistant exterior wire if you want to run it outside. Personally, I'd fish the wire through the walls.

Me too. I did it once. You can buy a tool that looks like a bunch of pieces of fishing pole held together with a cord for about $20.00. It's a two person job. Cell-phones or (better) two-way radios would be handy. |

Re: Cat 5e installation question
I have a standard electricians fish tape, it's a spring steel coil 25' long that you can unroll and stuff into the wall. I normally just bend a coat hanger to make the "catching" tool on the other end. It's somewhat of a PITA at times, but a MUCH better idea than running the cable outside the house.
