Cannot log on to certain sites with my wireless connection

Advance apologies for my lack of technical aptitude.
My share house recently got broadband with a wireless router. Everything works perfectly through an LAN connection. However, when I go wireless, I cannot log on to GMail nor MySpace. A housemate tells me she similarly can't log on to Hotmail. It will say 'waiting for (whichever)' in the status bar for between 10 to 100 seconds, then say 'Done', displaying a blank screen.
The card I'm using is a WLAN PC Card, IEEE 802.11b
Realek Config Utility, Version 2.3

When I'm connected via wireless my IP Configuration is:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

And now, when I tried to post this very thread, the same thing happened - screen just eventually went blank. I've posted it via my LAN connection now.

Any ideas?

Is the wired and wireless connection supplied by the same broadband router?

Re: Cannot log on to certain sites with my wireless connection

Hey, sorry for tardiness - away for the weekend unexpectedly.

johnwill, in answer, no, it was a different one. I have since connected via wire to the router that was causing problems via wireless and the problem was the same - most password protected sites were impossible to log on to.
The obvious question would be - why don't you use the router that works, you idiot? Problem there is that I had trouble setting up that one for encryption. (It's a D-Link DSL-G604T) When I set it up for WEP encryption, I entered the code (that I'd just chosen) on request and it seemed to time out each time and didn't connect.
The aforementioned router is secure and nicely connected to the hall wall!

M.P. Subscribed? Eh? Not up on lingo me.

Subscribed meaning I am interested in the discussion and want to recieve e-mail notifications each time there is a post in the thread. But unfortunately cannot offer any help, which is why I am interested.

johnwill has recommended in other posts to set-up the wireless network non-encrypted first, to make sure that it is working, then do the encryption part as a last stage. This way you can isolate the cause of the problem one way or the other.

If you're using WEP encryption, use ONLY the HEX keys, do not use the passphrase option. They sometimes get translated to different keys in different brands of hardware.

Yep, only using 0-9 and a-f. Not using a passphrase option - I use Firefox: don't know if there is one on that.
Yeah Monty, I set up unencrypted first. Cheers for the subscription heads up..

Re: Cannot log on to certain sites with my wireless connection

Eventually got the problem sorted by going back to square one with the router (from the first post). Yey!
