Router reading internet
Okay I just got a Linksys router to hook up a wireless network, But the problem I am having is having my PC read the internet through the router..
Here is what I did. First I install the software, Then I unhook my ethernet cable from my pc and hook it to my Internet port on my router, then anouther ethernet cable from my router (port 1) to my pc. I checked both cables, they both work. The internet worked befor I added the router, But when I hook up the circuit of cables, the PC does not connect to the internet through the router... any ideas? Oh yeah, it also says Im required to have a wired network adapter, and Im not to sure what that is. Last edited by Slevan; 10-11-2007 at 06:49 PM. |

That is what you pluged the network cable into. Be sure to power cycle the modem when you change it from being connected to the pc to being connected to the router. Turn off PC, ROuter and Modem ( you may have to pull the power cord on the Modem and ROuter ) . . Turn on the Modem and let the lights all stabilize, then the ROuter, then the pc . . see if you are connected to the internet after that.

Re: Router reading internet
I tried exactly what you said and its a no go.
When I connect the circuit up, dls cable to modem, network cable from modem to the routers internet port, then from the port 1 to the pc, It still does not read the internet, but when I pull the cord that goes to the modem to the router and hook the pc back up instead of the router, I have internet but no router, its like the pc knows the router is there but the internet cant get threw or something.. any other suggestions? |

Re: Router reading internet
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
