can't get a new ip address

Ok I have a linksys wireless USB adapter that i use in my desktop and every time I try to connect I use windows repair and alot of times it will get to the part where it says renewing Ip address and it wont. any suggestions

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

Ok my internet is so much faster now what did exactly did I do?

You reset the TCP/IP stack and WINSOCK to the installation defaults. You might want to do a malware/spyware scan if it's faster than it was when you previously had access, since that's usually do to malware/spyware infections.

but my internet is sill crappy. Like once I restarted the computer a ton of errors occured but the internet was working faster than it has ever worked. I'm going to switch to comcast. Wireless is not good for gaming at all.
