NICs for Linux
Hi Networking!
I'm looking to try using my server as a Linux server but my current NIC (Some Macronix card) doesn't work at all under that OS. I've got a couple spares of various brands and have access to TONS more.

Re: NICs for Linux
Which Linux distribution is it? Some distributions, for example RedHat, have very good NIC compatibility.
If you look up your distro and "hardware compatibility", you will come across various listings of compatibility from users. Also, depending on the distro, the distro's site may contain a HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). As an example, here is a (somewhat outdated) list from the infamous tldp.org . Addendum: Some NICs require a bit of wrangling to get them to work, such as using NDISwrapper. Last edited by Cellus : 05-08-2007 at 12:55 PM. |

Re: NICs for Linux
I dropped in a spare 3Com card which seems to work. Now I just need to get the PS2 port for the mouse working 'cause the USB card I have in there makes it track VERY slow.
