Can't connect to my modem???
Really hope someone can help me :( :(
I have been given a Dell Optiplex computer by my friend. I have installed my AOL onto it and when I try to complete the installation and it tests my Netgear wireless router (?) it says it cannot detect anything. I spoke to AOL and they said it sounds like it is my network adapter card?? Is this the ethernet port in the back of them PC (I am a little bit of a dipstick with computer terminology!!!) I did the CMD and ipconfig that they suggested nad it comes back with no IP details? What can I do to resolve this problem as I am surrently using my husband's work PC which he needs back asap. I can't swap my own ethernet port from his PC as it is too large for the Dell tower. Any help at all would be brilliant :) :) |

Re: Can't connect to my modem???
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:
Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

Re: Can't connect to my modem???
I will plug the Dell in today and do the run command promt thing and then reply again with what comes up.
I did the run, command prompt, CMD, ipconfig (but not the /all) on it last night while speaking to AOL and all that came up was Windows IP configuration but no numbers or anything after that. Shall let you know whathappens asap :) :)

Re: Can't connect to my modem???
That would be the first problem to solve.

Re: Can't connect to my modem???
Yayyyyyyyyy - I rang our local PC shop and was told that as my PC has it's ethernet thingy built ontot he board, it would be a bit of a wait before they could fix it BUt they would be happy to try to install the correct drivers to see if that fixed the problem.
They charged me £10 and I have new drivers installed and also a new battery on my mother board?? (is that for the harddrvie?) I also bought a 1gb flash drive so I can swap all my files over form my old PC and also can take my coursework for my psychology course to my friends house to go over it with her :) :) :) :) The gentleman in the shop did mention that the PC had some viruses they detected - malware or something. I am running my own virus checks now to see what the problems are - will McAfee pick these up?

Re: Can't connect to my modem???
McAfee should, and you can also do something like Trend Housecall, it's a site I use for an independent opinion on viruses.
