Splitter
Sorry for the n00bish question but am I able to use a splitter so that I can use my cable DSL and television on the same line? Can I just buy any splitter or do I have to look out for a specific make and model?
Will there be any slow-down in the speed of my internet if I do this? |

Re: Splitter
You should have ONE splitter at the service entrance where the cable comes in, and run a line directly to the cable modem. The other leg of the splitter runs to any and all the TV's, including any amplifiers you might have for multiple sets. Do NOT run the cable modem line through an amplifier.
You need a good quality splitter that passes 5mhz - 1000mhz, don't use the cheap ones that only do 750mhz, they'll screw things up.

Re: Splitter
So I should put the splitter on the wall jack directly? Where would I get one of these splitters?
I had my eye on this one. What do you think? Last edited by Bwelch; 04-03-2007 at 08:36 PM. |

Re: Splitter
Not on the wall jack, but right where the cable service enters from the ISP's connection. You don't want multiple splitters between you and the distribution from the provider.

Re: Splitter
Actually, "any" splitter will not work. You need a high quality one that passes 5mhz - 1000mhz, many don't have the full bandwidth, and will cause issues with cable Internet connections.
