Hi,
Recently I bought new LAN card (intex 100 mbps). Earlier I was using USB drive for my modem to connect to internet. Though after switching to LAN, there's been increase in speed for some time, there is some problem with it. The internet connection gets lost contineusly. I keep getting messeges about disconnection & connection. So much so that I have to again switch back to USB. At present I have kept both the connections, USB as well as LAN. What is exactly happening/ I have updated drivers for both. What is causing this problem? Earnestly waiting for suggestions. |

Re: Is it a card problem or Modem problem?
It is possible you have a bad cable.
Or the cable isn't plugged in well. Or your modem needs replaced. Have you called your ISP about it yet?

Thanks for ur quick reply, Comtrad. Though I have not called upon my ISP for this yet, a friend of mine who is also related to networking, too, suggested the problem could be with cable & may need crimping. But to give u more information, even with USB, earlier I faced some problem of disconnection or not being able to connect to internet whenever I switched on PC or the 'link' LED on modem kept blinking for some time & then died down! But these problem were not so frequent & acute as with LAN card. And at that time my ISP had pointed finger towards modem as a possible cause. So is it likely that the problem is with modem or should I first try change cable?
Waiting for ur reply! Thanks in advance. |

Re: Is it a card problem or Modem problem?
Try resetting your modem. See what that does.
Also what is the model modem you are using, and is it from your ISP or did you purchase it?

This is a UTSTARCOM (ADSL 2) modem that was supplied by my ISP, MTNL. It has four LED's on the top. Namely, Power, Link, Data & PC/USB. When the net is connected by LAN, the PC/USB LED goes greeen. In case of USB, it's red. Once the 'link' LED (Orange) (as well as Data LED, which is green) is stable & net is connected, the data LED flickers. But there are moments when, even after connecting to net, all LEDs are stable, sort of 'hung'. And the net activity is like 'dead'. That happens every where I guess. Not sure.
But, what will I have to do in order to reset modem? Pls. enlighten! |

Sorry could not post for some time. The problem seems to have been sorted out. First I tried changing cable but it didn't work out. So changed LAN card & it solved the problem. Thanks for ur valuable suggestions.
