Online gaming problems with ethernet card

Hello people, first time on these forums so I hope you guys can help.

The problem I am having is that when i try to play on line (ET) its unplayable due to connection problems. My speed is averaging at 5 meg so no worrys there. My router is plugged into my ethernet card (realtek RTL8139) which is where i feel the problem lies. When i connect the router via usb it seems to be ok.

I use newsgroups and dont have any problems downloading at all, but as soon as i go on my game its terrible.

I've tried a different card, cable and router but allways the same problem. Its a home built PC and i was wondering if theres something in the bios i should know about.

Any help would great, thx

Welshy

Re: Online gaming problems with ethernet card

Im playing Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. I can connect but then it just comes up with connection interupted as it does when you get Lag. Sometimes i can start and move for a few seconds but then freezes with same message. Hope this throws some light on the matter.

Re: Online gaming problems with ethernet card

Well, first of all it could be possibly an issue with the router's firewall blocking the game... i recommend you find the list of ports needed to open on the device for the application to run smoothly... or you could possibly establish a DMZ on that certain computer...

Anybody else has any suggestions ?
