Confused 2 Routers in each other?

Hi, I was wondering if this is possible

At the moment, we have 2 wireless capable laptops with a wireless router and this works fine. But in a few days we will be getting 2 PC's. The problem is, we use the laptops in the front rooms but the PC's will be in the opposite end of the house. We have considered putting wireless cards in the PC's but the wireless reaches there but is very slow. I was thinking that if we were to plug a cable into the wireless router, that was fed down to the other end of the house into another router (Not wireless) and hard wire the new PC's

Would this be possible and do you know of any other solutions around this one?

Thanks a tone :)

Re: 2 Routers in each other?

Are the PC's really that far away from the router? How big is your house?

Try using external antenna's or signal boosters, available in all good stores.

With the right equipment, the world record for a wi-fi connection currently stands at something like 150 miles.

These are the boys.

Re: 2 Routers in each other?

The wireless will just reach and we will probably go with that and just put an access point going somewhere down the house, but in the future if I decide it would be better just a bit faster would you be able to plug a 2nd router into a 1st

Thanks

Re: 2 Routers in each other?

If your gonna go the wired method you just need a cheap hub and run a cable to it, although most good routers today have at least a couple of ethernet ports. Just plug your pc's in.

Re: 2 Routers in each other?

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!
