Hi,
I have a D-Link DFE 538TX network adapter card connect via ethernet to my Scientific Atlanta Webstar cable modem. There isn't any router, the connection is direct from my modem to my computer via ethernet. It was working fine and then it stopped working suddenly. I didn't install any new software or anything. In Device Manager it says that it is working properly. The Link light on the back is lit but the ACT light is not. I am running a firewall with anit-spyware and anti-virus so I doubt that it's malware/spyware/virus. I downloaded WinsockxpFix.exe but it didn't help. The modem works fine with the USB connection but I would prefer having it connected via ethernet. Can anyone help me? Thanks. |

I tried 2 other cards. One I know is working the other probably works. I get the same results with both of the cards. They install fine and show up fine in Device Manager. The LED lights up but I can't connect with them. I tried them with 2 different ethernet cables. I even did a Windows XP repair installation. Nothing solved my problem. I am using Windows XP SP2 on a P4 1.6 with 768 megs RAM. I ran 3 spyware checks all coming up clean except for a few tracking cookies.

With everything connected, do this:
Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here.

Well, you need to only connect either the USB or Ethernet, you can't get bot connected at the same time. Also, you need to power cycle the modem when you change from Ethernet to USB, or change the attached device on the modem. With ONLY the Ethernet connected, we need another IPCONFIG
Note that I'll be away for a few days, so if this is urgent, you'll have to wait for someone to happen along and pick up the pieces.

I unplugged the USB, turned off the modem, plugged in my ethernet and then turned on my modem. Lo and behold, I get a connection. This is great. Thanks. |
