Odd problem with internet

I'm not sure if this is going to belong here or not; we shall see over time, I guess...

I have this problem with my internet connection degrading over time. I have Cable internet through Comcast, and after awhile it starts to degrade or be problematic and requires a restart of the system, (the restart fixes it temporarily). It takes about 4 hours for it to start degrading.

I have a lot of software on this system and it is clean of virus, trojans and adware, etc... After awhile, I can no longerconnect to the internet or open a new IE window, and only the current IE windows that are open are useful and can connect to the site they are still connected to, (not a new site, sometimes). Even then, after awhile more, I cannot get anything to connect to the internet at all.

I also have a KVM switch and a home network with a 4-port linksys router connecting the systems. This is a strange problem and I have never come across this type of thing before now.

I am a system administrator, so please refrain from asking really obvious questions like, "Did you try restarting the system?" or "are you sure you do not have any adware, virus, trojan, etc..?" I have covered most of the basics.

Although, I did have some trouble getting netbios to work some time ago, (I know... WHY?!?), and I may have changed something without creating a backup or a way to recover from it. I was sick at the time, very impatient, and was not thinking clearly, lol...

Anyways, let me know what you think or if you have any ideas... Thanks!

Try bypassing the router. See if your connection drops out. I have seen linksys routers do this before.

I always hate the posts that say "refrain from asking the obvious questions". Sometimes, the obvious questions are overlooked, that's why we ask them. I've been known to overlook pretty obvious issues at times, none of us are immune.

It would help if you supplied some information.

Make/model of the modem and router.

Version/patch level of Windows in use.

Also, does this happen to all computers on the router, or only a specific one.

In spite of your request to not mention malware/spyware, that's pretty much at the top of my list with the symptoms I see so far. Obviously, if multiple computers on the connection exhibit the same symptoms, I'd be more inclined to dismiss that possibility. Since that's information we don't have, it's hard to say that's not the issue.
