dual ethernet help
i have the asus a8r 32 mvp deluxe which has dual gigabit ehternet.
only one port works. and that one port disconnects from the internet every 5 hours or so. i need to restart my computer everytime that happens. i'm going through a dlink 707p (rev. c) router and none of the other computers have this problem of disconnecting. the disconnecting might be the router but im not sure, seeing as how my second etherent port doesn't work at all. i have the lan cable status thing in the bios on so it doesn't continue start up if a cable is unplugged. so when its plugged there, it doesn't work. any suggestions? i've tried updating/reinstalling the drivers and that doesn't seem to help. is there something in the bios that i missed? also in my network connections window it has 3 connections... local area connection 1 (1394) connection 2 (1394) and connection 4 (marvell yukon etc) Last edited by Mr_bumpy : 05-07-2006 at 01:52 PM. |

2 guesses. You probably need a seperate driver for each nic.
Go to device manager, find your network adapters and check the properties. Chances there's a check where it says "allow windows to turn this device off to save power". Uncheck it and that should help. |

I have the same board, and both ports are enabled when you load the standard Asus driver package.
The fact that you have two 1394 connections isn't right, at least I don't have them, and I have no idea why they'd show up. Try resetting the TCP/IP stack and see if that gets it's mind right. TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

that didn't work. i think i found my problem... i found an unknown pci device and i managed to unlock it as ALi PCI fast ethernet controller. but windows update can't find any drives for it. also notice that i'm missing the marvell yukon 88e8053 pci-e gigabit ethernet controller.. i think thats my problem. i have the miniport driver thing, but not the controller itself.
here's a screen: ![]() |

there is where the controllers are... make sure it is the exact driver for your controller...

I think I'd uninstall EVERYTHING under Network Adapters and take a run at a fresh start. That configuration looks pretty screwed up, unless you've added a PCI Ethernet, that board doesn't have that hardware onboard.
