Windows Stop Error in Normal Startup

I am getting a windows stop error (details below) just after the login screen on XP. It appears to have made it to the loading startup programs stage and then the blue screen. I can boot in to SAFE mode successfully and ran Norton from there but am stumped about the stop error.

I am pretty sure the machine is virus and spyware free (according to Norton, Ewido, Spybot and Adaware) so I don't think that is the problem but, of course, I could be completely wrong. :) I have adequate free disk space (25GB Free on 40GB Drive), I don't know if I have a driver that is causing the conflict and don't seem to have a caching and/or shadowing option in the BIOS. The stop error follows along with a HiJack this log. Thanks for any help you can provide!

8E error is likely to be a corrupt nvidia driver

Wow, thanks for the tip, that seems to have worked. Now I can boot normally (sort of).

When the main screen comes up I get the following error...

Windows - Registry Recovery

"One of the files containing the systems registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful."

On top of that, sometimes when I restart (seemingly randomly) the background picture comes up but no explorer.

Any ideas on that?

sfc /scannow
and press enter
if it finds anything amiss it will ask for the xp cd

The scan ran successfully without any errors or requests. When I restart I get the same registry error message. :(

Could it have anything to do with the fact that I deinstalled the NVIDIA driver - restarted - and allowed windows to find the NVIDIA driver all from safe mode?

Could be that you just removed and reinstalled them.
I would like to point out that you have 2 files in your HJT log that look suspicious.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\6n9c.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\zgbpfp.exe

run jv16 and clean the registry

d/l the latest driver from nvidia
never let windows choose which to install,after removing restart and tap f8 and choose vga mode
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot

The Plot Thickens

Thank you for your suggestions. Before I was able to try any of them the computer took a turn for the worse. Now when I try to start normal, safe or any other mode I get this error...

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt...

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file blah blah blah

Am I screwed? I am about to call dell and tell them to come and fix this.

Partially Fixed

Wow, OK, it would appear I am fixed but still working with the spyware folks in the other section.

I am using a DELL (translated *&^%) and the normal xp repair options didn't work as they seem to put things in different places. I ended up having to restore the system file from a restore point. I tackled that this morning then got on the instructions from my other thread and have finished all of those tasks and will post that over there.

Thanks for all your help, it is very much appreciated.
