slrundll.exe

Okay, I did the unpardonable (I NEVER!) and started to accept some strange plug-in from a site I did not intend to visit - what's wrong with me!
Anyway, now this???

what is this monster?
I have deleted it several times, and it keeps popping right back in to the Windows directory. I noticed there are several sl*.* files in the System32 directory, and all I can find on the net is that these are SmartLink Modem files... I DON'T THINK SO!

Anyone conquer this dilema?

Hi

http://www.auditmypc.com/process/slrundll.asp

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=k...&sid=global#11

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Try going to Start>Run and typing msconfig and see if you can uncheck any related start-up process.

If you can't control or shift this, a post on the High-Jack-This board with a request for advice might help.

Peter

A quick Google search shows

slrundll - slrundll.exe - Process Information
Process File: slrundll or slrundll.exe
Process Name: Smart Link Modem Driver

Description:
slrundll.exe is installed alongside the driver for Smart Link's range of communications hardware. This should not be removed where modem and Internet connection stability are concerned, although not a critical system process.

This file name can be used by some malware authors to trick internet users.

Are you experiencing any other issues with your system?

check out www.majorgeeks.com and download sybot and adware SE if you dont have these programs. then install them, update them if they need to be updated, and run both spybot and adware SE. see they get rid of this pesticide. good luck.

I hear you... but as I stated, this is NOT the SmartLink modem driver set file(s)
I deleted all of the aforementioned files and they came right back - System Restore was OFF!
I went back to the offending site from a different (junk) computer, and lo-and-behold, the files weren't there when I started, but after visiting this sales site, wha-la! and I KNOW someone, somewhere has beaten this bas#$@^d.

If you feel you have malware installed please let one of our analyst take a look at your HJT log. Cant hurt

Download and install: HiJackThis.

(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders or Desktop. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Then doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do A System Scan And Save Log". Make sure all Windows and Browsers are closed.
When the scan is finished, best to save your text file in the same folder as where you put HiJackthis.

IMPORTANT!!!
Create a New Topic and include a fresh HJT log in the HiJackThisLog Help Forum and Copy/Paste the info from your saved Hijackthis log file into your new topic.

A Moderator/ Security Team Analyst will give you instructions.

***DO NOT TRY TO FIX ANYTHING, MAJOR DAMAGE CAN BE DONE TO YOUR SYSTEM IF THIS TOOL IS USED INCORRECTLY, PLEASE WAIT FOR AN ANALYST/MODERATOR TO GIVE YOU INSTRUCTIONS***

Always describe your problem and any programs you have used to try to resolve your issue. Your description can go a long way to solving/repairing your particular issue.
