cmicnfg.cpl Start-Up Error?

a little while back, my dad's computer lost sound, so I've been toying w/ it since that... today, after I got the sound working by uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of the Intel INF Updates for the mainboard, the sound came back in full force w/ an error message on start-up.

"RUNDLL"

Error loading cmicnfg.cpl
The specified module could not be found.

-Never seen this one before, but it's odd that I get this error after FIXING my sound problems... (btw, this computer is using a MSI i845PE mainboard w/ integrated sound for the device.)

-ideas?

Hello viperos,

here is some info about Rundll32 cmicnfg.cpl, CMICtrlWnd System tray control panel for C-Media based soundcards - often included on popular motherboards with in-built audio. Available via Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.

(may work not sure, not harmful tho) start - run - sfc /scannow (don't forget the space between sfc and / )

If i were you I would uninstall/reinstall the sounddrivers in safe mode. Do not use the cd refer to manufacturers website.

Pls post back.
