BSOD and me.
Here is the story...
My sister uses an old pc for word processing and internet use. It is about 5 years old, P3 1.0ghz with a 40 and 80 g hard drives running NTFS. Recently I installed D-Link DWL-G510 wireless ethernet adapter allowing her to connect to my network/wireless Linksys Router. All was well until a few days later she would get the BSOD with an error message. I do not remember the exact number, but from research, it was directly related to newly installed software/drivers not installing correctly. I uninstalled and reinstalled the D-Link software several times with the same BSOD result. This past weekend I reformatted her pc, and just to goof around I ran DBAN, Darik's Boot And Nuke. I used the DoD with 7 passes, and the Gutmann method of 35 passes, totaling over 40+ hours of encryption. This was to "practice" so I can replace the hard drive in my pc reporting a SMART event. Anyways, I reformatted her pc, installed Windows XP Corp and the first piece of software I installed was the D-Link, to get online and download the needed updates. After 1 restart, the BSOD appeared with the same error message. Note I just wiped and reformatted, and no other software was installed. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any other information you may need I can provide. Ive consulted this forum many a time and each time it was instrumental with solving my problem. Thank you!! |

hi SEeagles,
hmm.......try using updated drivers for the wireless nic card on your sister's pc. also might wanna take out the wireless nic card and put it in another pci slot and see if that helps. it could be compatibility issues too so try the new wireless nic card in another computer and see if the spare computer starts acting up. is the pc on your sister's computer using windows xp? im assuming it is since you posted this thread in this windows xp section. to see the BSOD right click on my computer -> click on properties -> click on the advanced tab -> click on the settings on the startup and recovery section and then uncheck automatically restart. there the next time the BSOD shows up, you can see it. good luck and i hoped i help and just post back if you have more problems. |

I've got the same card in a PIII 500 and it works beautifully.
What I found was that in my case it was important to "ask Windows to step aside" during the install process. Do as much as you can from the D-Link envirnment. It may also help to install the driver before slotting in the card. I know that there have revisions of this card. You can find that info on the box under the bar code. Mine, which I believe is the latest is: DWL-G510 H/W Ver: B1 F/W Ver: 2.00 You can update the F/W to 2.00, but if you are earlier than H/W Ver. B1, I wouldn't hesitate to exchange it. 35' and 2 SR walls away from AP: SS= 62% Tx= 48Mbps Had to add Zonet ZWA2006 antenna (New Egg $14.75 AMIR) |
