Monitor automatically turns off for a while

Hello,

Since about two weeks ago, I've been having a bizarre problem with my monitor when I start my computer. I'll have a picture for about two seconds, then the screen will go blank (yet the light on the monitor's power button is still on). I can turn off my monitor and turn it back on, and I'll get a picture for another two seconds or so, and then the screen will go blank again. I find that usually if I let my computer sit for 30 minutes or so, and turn my monitor off and on, the screen will flicker and I'll get an image that lasts.

Also, when I start up, I'll get about two or three error messages that say "xzxhrb.exe has encountered a problem and will need to quit. Do you want to send an error report?". Part of me thinks these two problems are linked, since they first appeared at the same time. However, I was out of town the week before last (right after I first noticed the problem), and when I came back, my monitor was working just fine (I've still been getting the "xzxhrb.exe" error messages though). The monitor only just now started acting up again. Does anyone know what "xzxhrb.exe" is?

Norton Antivirus and Spy Subtract show nothing unusual. Hewlett Packard tech support has been no help at all. And yes, I've checked to make sure my monitor cable's tightly plugged in, and no, re-starting doesn't solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Appologies if this is in the wrong section, but I didn't see a "Monitors" category.

It sounds like your monitor maybe overheating try having a desktop fan blow some fresh air in it and see if it still does it. As for the xzxhrb.exe error I have no idea and nothing came up with google. Try doing a search for the file and tell us what folder that file is located in. If I knew what program that is assicated with I might be able to figure some thing out.

If you go into bios before you boot, does the monitor stay on?
What about safe mode?
Do you have another monitor you can try?

The files you are talking about sound virus related. This will be hard to troubleshoot until we can get your monitor to stay on.
