Windows Media Player
Hey everyone! Just wanted to ask, is there anything wrong with running windows media player all day long? When I say all day long, I literally mean it. Only reason I'm doing this is because recently I've had shutdown problems, and I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but the shutdowns never occur when I'm playing a movie in windows media player. As soon as I woke up this morning though, for some reason, my player stopped had stopped playing the movie, and there was a message stating something about my memory. I can't remember what it exactly said, but I believe it was something about being low on memory.
After this, I pretty much just closed the warning message and tried WMP again, and it pretty much works the same with no apparent problems. I did check my Event log in Administrative Tools and I found this error log if anyone is interested; Event Type: Error Event Source: Application Error Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 7/18/2005 Time: 2:41:46 AM User: N/A Computer: BEN-0ESU9AOP0FU Description: Faulting application wmplayer.exe, version 10.0.0.3646, faulting module xvidcore.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0007bc2c. It actually just happened again. This time I was able to get the entire message. "Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs" or something to that sort. This has never really happened to me before, and I'm pretty sure that my comp has enough memory to support my programs (1gb RAM to be exact). Is there anything I can check in my comp to see if it has a problem with my RAM? I do have a MEMTEST program which I have ran a couple days ago. It didn't pick up any errors. Could it be a memory leak or something?
Or, could this just be because I have been running it all day long? Should I just give it a rest, and just play it when I need it? |

there has to be another solution to the problem than running WMplayer 24/7, though i can't see any problems with doing it as whenever my computer's on theres usually music playing (and my computer's on pretty much constantly) and i don't have any problems
what this "other solution" is i have no idea but still .....

True, I really don't believe that running my WMP has solved my shutdown problems, but hey, it hasn't happened since I have been running it. I'll probably just stop using WMP all day and see if I encounter the shutdown problem again.
Now, as of the "supposed" memory problem of my WMP, anyone got any suggestions? Was running WMP 24/7 the only reason that this RAM problem is showing up? |

Yes, You are probably getting the message because of continued use. It all takes a toll. You have WMP playing a Video, you probably have Antivirus, Antispyware, MSN Messenger, and more programs just running in the background. It's normal if you use the PC for extended periods of time with a lot running to eventually get errors like the one you got. You should reboot at least once a week.
