no simple file sharing check box in xp
hey there, have been having an annoying problem recently with xp home. when I try
to run some programs from the desktop. such as media player or limewire. I get the message "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them. So I have done some searching and have gone to make sure simple file sharing box is ticked in my computer/ tools/ folder options/ view. However the check box is not even there. I am logged on as administrator. These programs work fine from start/ programs. Any ideas. thanks. ![]() |

You could have the 911 Worm, have you scanned for virii, and adware. Do an online virus scan from www.trendmicro.com. Download SpyBot S&D at www.safer-networking.org, CW Shredder at http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract..._download.html, and Ad-aware at www.lavasoft.com.
Run the online virus scan first (disable your System Restore before running make sure to enable after) if any virii is found write them down then remove them. Then run the other tools. This is just my suggestion, it wouldn't hurt to try.
