Deep problems with registry keys and Apple media software (help needed!)

OK I have hit a large problem on my pc now. I am unsure about which forum i should post this on so I am assuming here is fine - please tell me to move it otherwise.

So basically, I purchased an iphone recently and wanted to connect it to my pc to put music and other files on it. While doing this, my computer informed that I need a more newer version to run the iphone (my itunes was a really old version). I uninstalled the old version and downloaded the newest version of itunes and while attempting to install it, it fails as it "cannot remove older versions of Apple update software. Contact your support group".

On another forum, I was told that I need to delete all traces of apple software in order to install the new one - hence I would need to delete these files from the registry key. I deleted the relevant files from my system registry but noticed that they come back immediately after I close the window and go back to it. Even rebooting my system wont do it, any registry that I delete simply returns. Whether deleting the registry keys will even help the problem is unknown.

I just need some help regarding this...please tell me how to delete the registry keys (if thats what I need to do) and get the new itunes running on my computer. I have tried everything to no success, I would be very grateful if I could get help fixing this, and would likely make a generous donation if someone can help me fix it. My system is Windows XP.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Deep problems with registry keys and Apple media software (help needed!)

Alot of people have problems uninstalling iTunes from their computer,

First to make sure, when you uninstall, in your add/remove programs you should have removed iTunes, then there should have/should also be iPod/iPhone updater applications, these should/have to be removed as well. basically anything in add/remove that starts with i =P if you've removed all these files already ignore this.

Head to http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php and download an older version of iTunes (probably around 7.7 - 8.1 should do it, just as long as it is an older ver. than the one you had installed in the first place) once downloaded (on page, click the version you want, avoid the banner links trying to get you to accidentally click their sponsers, near the top click the link that says iTunes 7.7 or w/e ver. you're downloading) run the setup and install the older version of iTunes, restart your computer and head to add remove programs, remove iTunes and any iPod/iWhatever program/updaters you see in the list, once finished download a registry cleaner of some sort, for quick and easy use i'd suggest CCleaner ( http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ ) top right corner click link "Download Latest Version" once installed run this program and scan all areas, fix any problems found, reboot your pc. IF any files are somehow leftover, one more suggestion would be to use your Search (start > search > for files or folders) under advanced options check to search in Hidden files and folders, search for iTunes. Any file that comes up, check the folder it's in, if the folder is exclusively for iTunes or iPod or anything related, delete the folder, if it's a file by itself in a populated folder with other files unrelated, delete the single file. again reboot. IF NONE OF THIS WORKS one more suggestion would be to attempt to uninstall any mac-related programs (I.E. QuickTime, can't think of any other examples atm) using the add/remove programs.

edit: (Please note, before making any changes or removing any entries using ccleaner, i'd always suggest 100% of the time to create a restore point just in case!)

I was able to download an older version of itunes but the registry mechanic program does not work on my pc; i installed it and upon trying to open it, it just stays on the startup screen for hours without opening the program.
