No internet access for certain apps after malware attack
I recently was attacked by a fake antivirus program called "Antivirus System PRO" which Avast somehow let through. It gave me continual pop-ups and caused me to stop having internet access.
After I cleaned it up, I ended up having to reinstall the drivers for my wireless adapter before I could connect to my home network. Now, it says I am connected to the internet, and online games seem to function normally (ie I can get server lists and join games, so I must be connected). However, my browsers (Chrome and IE) act as if I'm not connected, as does Digsby and Steam. I tried disabling my firewall and antivirus with no effect. I also tried a winsockxp fix to see if it could fix any potential registry errors. If nothing else works I may try reinstalling everything that seems affected to see if that helps, but that will be annoying as I'll constantly be shuttling programs from working machines to this one. Any advice? Last edited by FuzzyWuzzyBear; 11-27-2009 at 02:56 PM. |
