Can't even log in! Trojan virus problems
Hi, my name is tech-dude and I am trying to help someone repair her computer. Currently, it is in such a bad state that she cannot even log in. Her modem crashed recently, and when she payed professionals to have it fixed it still did not repair the problem. She currently has Norton IS (unknown year, probably no earlier than 2007) and reports that it found multiple viruses on her computer (more explicitly trojan horses/vundos.) I'm a computer security guy, but I have one question. How can I get onto her computer if she can't even log in? I was thinking I could reboot it and hook it up to another computer (laptop) and access it from there.
Basically, all I need to do is access her computer. Whether I reboot it or hook it up to another computer, I don't care. I can't just clean off her hard drive because the viruses got into the processor and motherboard a little too. Can I hook up an ethernet cord to her laptop and access her computer's files from there? (the computer in repair is a desktop) or can I just reboot her computer manually and restart it? Thanks for helping Last edited by nickster_uk; 11-11-2009 at 04:48 PM. Re: Can't even log in! Trojan virus problems
Hello tech-dude
You would be better to slave her hard drive in another desktop machine. Then run antivirus on it. .

Re: Can't even log in! Trojan virus problems
Thanks for the help, but Andy Giles, from TechSack.com already helped me out. All I have to do is get a special little hard drive-to-USB connecter, and a reinstallation-CD for Windows. Then I simply connect her hard drive to my laptop, boot her computer via my laptop, and done.
