A blue screen of death that I have never seen before

I have a laptop that has problems firing up windows XP.......SOMETIMES.

I turn on the laptop and it seems to be firing up okay, It will get to the part where the "Windows XP" logo comes on the screen then BAM....

A blue screen of death.

It's literally a full page of text however, It's so much and it only stays on the screen for about 1 second then goes to another screen.

That other screen is the "start windows normally" ...... "Start in Safe Mode", etc screen.

If I start it in Safe Mode, it will do it.

1 thing. Periodically, it actually does start up properly. 2 nights ago, I let it sit and over 1 hr. it never booted up properly, it just went from

REBOOT.......LOGO .......BLUE SCREEN ..... RESTART IN modes

Today, I turned it on and perfect.....first shot it started right up??????

Is there any software I can use to run a diagnostic on it?

It's an IBM R51 LAPTOP,

thanks
