I recently discovered that it is possible to use windows keys such as dell and hp keys on any xp machines for clean instals or windows genuine advantage failures.
I reinstalled xp pro on a mates dell dimension pc (after he lost the recovery disk) only to find that the key on the case wouldn't work for my version of pro. Here's how I fixed it. I used my key that failed WGA to complete the windows installation then used the Microsoft keyupdatetool.exe to change the key to the one on the coa on the case. Guess what? It passed WGA. Here's the link for the key tool: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/sel...XPPkuinst.aspx Hope somebody finds this info as useful as I did! |
