i got this avi file sent to my mail but when i open it i can't hear the audio, tried opening it with a bunch of programs but had no luck. can someone help me please??

Have you tried opening with VLC? It could be that you don't have the right codec, but VLC doesn't need codecs so it could be what you're looking for.
That's the direct link to the installer file for vlc. Run and install it, and try to open the avi again. Once you try that, respond and I'll help you some more. |

You could try feeding it into gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot) or avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info) to find out what audio codec it uses.

firstly thanks for the help guys, tried opening it with vlc but it said vlc didn't support "IV50" format and just wouldnt play the file. tried feeding it to gspot too but it said i had the codec

gspot isn't that good at detecting whether a codec's actually installed.
what exactly does it say for audio? and that is correct, videolan doesn't support Indeo 5. |
