Okay, guys.
My SM Bus has an error notification that never disappears, no matter what I try; my informs me of a missing driver for it. I've looked everywhere for it, and can't find anything; neither can Windows Update. Also, my USB ports aren't transferring data between device and computer. They transfer power, but not information. I have a feeling that the two are related, though I can't be entirely sure. =\ Here are the specs: OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name THECOUNT System Manufacturer Gateway System Model GT5473E System Type X86-based PC Processor x86 Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~2109 Mhz BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 4/9/2007 SMBIOS Version 2.4 Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1 Locale United States Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2111)" Time Zone Eastern Standard Time Total Physical Memory 4,096.00 MB Available Physical Memory 2.02 GB Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB Page File Space 4.72 GB GPU nVidia GeForce 6150 LE CPU AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+ I hope you guys can help me. <3 |

Re: SM Bus Controller Error + USB Error. Help?
Well, that's the problem, bro'. While I was last in VA, I downgraded from Vista to XP Sp3. Also, from what I understand, they don't make a specific driver set for my model with the OS it's runnin'. I was actually wondering if I could use some sort of a generic driver for the SM Bus; but I'm hesitant, because I don't want to lose functionality from my computer anymore than I already have; by installing a wrong driver. I heard something about using CABARC.exe to rig up the SP3 Folder with some of the Sp2 USB drivers. But when I attempted; the DOS prompt closed instantaneously. Evidently this is a ridiculously common problems for people like me downgrading from Vista. I'd Keep Vista, but it runs too many processes for my liking even with the elimination of some.

Re: SM Bus Controller Error + USB Error. Help?
you could try telling windows to search online for the best driver, that is sometimes quite successful. If a driver exists for XP SP2 then it should make no difference if you're using SP3 and that same driver, it only matters if it's an XP driver and you're trying to make it work for a whole other platform, i.e. Vista
Failing that, you could open up the PC (if it's not in warranty) to find out what motherboard is in it and looking directly at the manufacturer of the board for a generic chipset driver?

Re: SM Bus Controller Error + USB Error. Help?
Oh dude, I've had this box for probably a year and a half now; and put parts in it myself. Which is no problem really, I've been doing it for a long time on various boxes with no problems; even this one, until recently.
ECS C51PVGM-M is the mobo model. Upon observation of the website, the only chipset drivers were for the nForce model, and not the GeForce. I'm not certain whether these drivers are compatible or not, though. Forgive my incompetence. |
