windows xp won't start-up/load

hi all,
I turned on my puter and it started just fine...I walked away for a few minutes, came back and my puter said something about chkdisk. I took out the gaming disk that I had in my puter. All of a sudden my puter went to the below:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) Start Windows Normally

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Seconds until Windows starts: 30

i tried to start in all the modes, nothing worked. I even did the F8 and still, nothing works,,,,only goes back to the above screen. I am at a loss as to what to try next......please help.... thanks bunches

Re: windows xp won't start-up/load

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Getting into Windows Safe Mode
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

Choose "Last known good configuration that worked", and press the Enter key. The computer will attempt to load Windows.
If Windows does not start, try the same thing again .... and continue trying for 10 times, before you rule that option out as a means of getting your OS up and running again, normally.
Why 10 times? Based on past experience, a successful result is sometimes achieved after several consecutive failed attempts.

The first thing you should do is to get a look at the error message presented by the BSOD (blue screen of death).
Start tapping the F8 key after you press the ON button, and continue tapping until you are presented with the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" screen.
Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" and press the Enter key.
Your system will attempt to restart normally, but when it crashes, it will not re-start. Instead, you will see a BSOD with error message.
Record the error message in full detail, and post in this thread.

Edit: I note that you did not mention seeing this option available.
If it is not available, try hitting the Pause key, to try and get a look at the BSOD message.

Re: windows xp won't start-up/load

I have the exact same problem as above.....the full error message is as follows:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this STOP ERROR screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus,disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x87367828, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000)

Please start your own new thread and post a full description of your own problem there. Rarely are two situations identical, even though they may appear so at first glance. It is too complicated to help two people in the same thread.

Edit: BTW ...
