Cannot close programs

Hello all!

I've created an account here because I'm having an issue with my that I've never heard of or experienced before.

I'm currently running windows XP. When I go into full screen application such as a game my escape key will not work to bring up a menu and this is happening with more than just one program. In addition to this when I alt+tab out I cannot exit the program by right clicking on the window bar on the bottom of the screen because no menu appears. So I end up having to use ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager window and close the program from there. However it will allow me to close a window if it is something like firefox or something similar. This started up just last night and I can't think of anything I would have done to cause this.

Any ideas?
