Sound Troubles

Hi im new to the form and was recommended this website for tech support by a friend so hopefully i can get some help..My problem is as follows:
I recently recieved a Monitor as my other one died on me

I've been given a Acer AL1715 and it has built in speakers, now the problem is these speakers dont seem to work at all.. I dont have a clue as to a reason why hense why im here, any help or advice would be appriciated.

Do you have the audio cable connected from the sound card audio output to the monitor audio input?
