[SOLVED] Cryptographic Service not starting. Can't download SP3 or XP updates.
I checked the properties for Cryptograpich Service under the Administrative tools->Services and Crypt won't start. When I click start, I get this small window:
"Could not start the Cryptomatic Service on Local computer. Error 1290: 0x05a" This is the message I get when I try to update Windows: "setup could not verify the integrity of update.inf; cannot install updates" I checked the: C:\windows\softwaredistribution\download\2fb654de6ecfe5a35a556d5a5c387a87\update folder and I don't have an update.inf in that folder. (I have attached a screenshot of the contents of that folder) I dont have a Windows XP recovery disc which came with the computer, though I have the C:/i1386 which contains the same Image as the Disc. I've tried all of the steps from the windows support site. I had a Backdoor trojan which "mas_pogi" has been doing very well of helping me with. I'v deleted much of the trojan and its remnance, but for us to finish the repair of my computer, I must get the latest updates from windows. Seems like files in my computer have been deleted in order to prevent any updates on my computer. Any help would be great. Thanks. Freddy |

Re: Cryptographic Service not starting. Can't download SP3 or XP updates.
Try the following, Hit Enter after each command:
Startr/Run> Type in regsvr32 wuapi.dll You should receive a message saying it was successful Now do the same with the following files: regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll |

You're still infected. Check in the Spyware-Malware section for removal instructions. Or save any data off of that drive you want to a Flash drive and format your drive and reinstall Windows.
