Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
Please post a screenshot of your startup items by clicking start>run type"msconfig" without the quotes>click the startup tab.

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
O.K. lets check your event viewer for any errors.
Click start>run type eventvwr.msc look within application and system and report any errors. How long has the system behaved this way?

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
looks to me like you have some Norton program starting at bootup and Avast antivirus and Tea timer for Spybot search and destroy.
if this is correct I suggest you do a clean removal of the Norton product and disable TEa timer too.... just my two cents and see how that affects startup time |

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
you can disable some programs from system startup using MSCONFIG.
Just issue msconfig in run and move to startup tab and uncheck all the applications and restart your machine. Please post reply if this helps.. Thanks. Regards, SUssane iliketechno |

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
Try disconnect all drives except the hard drive. Sometimes during the P.O.S.T your BIOS will attempt to see all your devices attached to your computer's motherboard. If you have a defective IDE/SATA drive it can confuse the BIOS and delay booting to the desktop. Optical drives do fail and can cause boot errors.
MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE OUTLET BEFORE REMOVING ANY POWER OR IDE CABLES. There is still power running throughout the Motherboard despite the computer being shut down. Failure to do so can result in a blown PSU.

Run a scan with malwarebytes which can be downloaded here http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
Open a command prompt and run the chkdsk command.
Start>run type cmd, now in the command prompt type the following command chkdsk c: /r notice the space after c: You could have a look here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883253 as well.

My sisters' Dell desktop has done this from the day she took it out of the box. It crawls along; hard drive light on nearly all the time. It's about five years old. P4 2.66 GHz. It came with 256 MB of RAM. I had her get a 512 MB module and swapped that for one of the 128's. It made no difference. So, I don't know what the deal is with it. She swears she will never buy another Dell. I would like to solve it, if for no other reason that to know what the issue has been.

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min
cyberhoax after all you have tried thus far....I suggest you consider installing a new harddrive and reload XP to start from scratch. you can install your existing drive into an external harddrive enclosure and use it connected via usb to access your old files...
Storm5510 you should start your own thread but I suggest you do the same as I suggested for Cbyerhoax |
