Sounds as if the HDD may be failing, I suggest going through with a format and reloading XP at least that way if it still behaves the same way we will have at least tried resolving the issue without any cost.

I did that; formatted the HD and put everything back. No difference. She's using XP Home; junk IMO. I didn't start a new thread because she doesn't want me wasting my time on it any longer.

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min

That's a failing/degraded HDD. That's what the perfmon errors point to.

Run this test for your HDD (download, then click "All" and wait for it to run - then post the screenshot of its results back). It'll show the performance of the drive from which we should be able to estimate its state.

Make sure you have the net disabled and any antivirus/security applications disabled when running that test.

As an addition, disable any network devices (such as the internet through Control Panel>Network Connections) for the meanwhile and time the boot. Net intiliazation and validation takes the most time in a typical system bootup.

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min

its gettin me crazy ... i finally formatted everything and the new problem is that after the files are copied into the hard drive .. it ask for reboot and i press enter ... if restart and then if will ask press any key to load from CD ..... Usually the setup will run after a certain period ... My problem is that it would move forward after this point...

I thought that it might due a faulty hard disk .. so i tried installing ubuntu into the system ... It installed without a hitch and is working great ... i made a new partition so that i can retry to install windows ... it will come to the exact place and then it will stop to respond

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min

Please explain a bit more.

Received any errors in the process?

Is your CR-ROM 1st in the BIOS boot order?

Just to verify when after the system performs it's reboot during install that you do not press anything when you are again prompted to press any key to boot from CD.

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min

k .. i have changed my 1st boot to CD-ROM and 2nd is hard disk .. i loaded the windows disk into into the drive and it booted from the disk and created partition and windows started to copy the necessary files into the hard drive and after everything gets copied into the drive it ask to reboot the system .. We wait for a 15 second delay and the system reboot ..Normally the system would reboot and it will run the cd drive and then start the hard disk ... But for me it does not start the hard disk ...

I thought it might be due to the hard disk trouble ... to check it i installed a fresh copy 0f ubuntu into my system and it installed without a hitch is working without a problem .. i just cant understand why it is not installing windows which its normal os

Re: Loading into Windows takes More than 10 min

If you are able to load Linux and would rather load XP you should be able to.

I would recommend a low level format and then a clean install.

Download boot-n-nuke from here http://www.dban.org/downloadbeware that will wipe everything that is currently on the drive and even every other drives if you select to wipe all drives.

After wiping her completely out you should be able to load XP.
