missing .dll files

Hi,
I running windows xp pro on the machine I am having problems with. The machine has a couple of user profiles. But when I log into a certain user profile, not the admin account. I get the messege: error loading C:DOCUM~/user/APPLIC~1/gvava.dll. I see that is telling me that it is in the c:/documentsandsettings/user/localsettings/applicationdata/the.dll file. I am guessing that this missing .dll file is not a microsoft missing .dll file, I am also missing a ntlsv39.dll file. I am not sure if a virus caused the missing .dll files. That is what I am thinking. I have googled this and see all the free scanners you can download for free and then after they scan, you have to pay to have them fix your computer problems. I was wondering if a registery scanning software would fix this missing .dll file. If I am right about this that this will work, can anyone point me to a good free one that does work, or some opensource one that does work? The missing .dll files messege comes up as soon as you log, but you already know that. I am sure someone else has had this problem already here. I just didn't get a chance to go through the forums yet.
Thanks,
allyo

Re: missing .dll files

download autoruns.

unzip it and run it, logged on to that account is easiest.

find gvavi.dll and the ntlsv39 as well. delete those entries.

do not use registry cleaners.

you also might consider a comprehensive malware cleanup, sounds like you've been infected.

Re: missing .dll files

Hi,
I downloaded that autoruns tool and ran the gui version. So from your post you suggest running it, then finding the two missing .dll entries (gvavi.dll and ntlsv39.dll) So to find them I run the autorun tool then click on the know DLL tab and locate them, then delete them. Doing this all from the user account that is having problem, not the admin.
You also said not to use a registry cleaner, why is that, or do you mean don't use a free one. I thought a quick fix would be a registry scanner to fix those missing .dll files.
thanks,
jon
