lost in XP

Here goes....I got the blue screen then I tried a few things like defrag from disk,tried the repair from cd then tried the install from cd nothing,,,,it will Not let me install because when I get to the step "press F8" it does nothing...wierd part I got it running because I am using it now...but my main menu page has nothing on it and if I go to my computer call up c drive I see everything but nothing works...I tried to download but it won't let you...The is something really wrong here the info is there but I can't use it,,,call up a program and it won't start...please help

If you are using a USB keyboard, try a PS2 keyboard. Many USB keyboards don't work in the Windows setup so you can't hit F8 to agree.

Although that statement is correct I believe it is gonna be something else because he was able to boot from when prompted to press any key to boot from from CD which is usually where USB keyboard will fail.

Just for S&G I would try a PS2 keyboard before trying the following.

If there is nothing on the drive that you cant live without I would try performing a low level format then fresh install.

I tried to format the c drive and it will not let me saying the volume is in use and then it just re boots...I will try the different key board when I get home is there anything else I can do???? The data is all there but it just doesn't come up on the xp page....and restore will not restore the system i have tried different dates too...thanks for the help...
