Hi guys, I just formatted my disk drive and installed a fresh copy of windows xp. But now the windows update keeps on failing and strangely the c drive cannot open normally, instead it prompts me to "open with" another program. Please examine my HTJ log and help me fix those problems. Thank you.

Sounds like a corrupt install. Since it's a new install, I'd try installing XP again.

You do have a malware infection there. You can either try to clean it up or just do the reinstall as Dogg sugested.

Remove the malware
