Disk Defragmenter could not start

This has always worked. I tried to run it today and I get this error. Every drive has much more than the 15% needed to run it.

Re: Disk Defragmenter could not start

Hi, I haven't seen this error before. Can you make sure that the hardisk this is performed on has over 15% free disk space. If that is not the case, you could try a disk clean up first, then a check disk followed by this.
I personally use Auslogics Disk Defrag which is free and better that the Windows.

Other than that, haven't seen that error before.

Re: Disk Defragmenter could not start

They all have over 15%. I will try that program. I have my PC triple booted so I try to run chkdsk and when I boot back into xp it does not seem to run fully. It says something like hd is raw or something then goes into windows.

Re: Disk Defragmenter could not start

After doing some research I noticed that this error is because you did not format the hard drive with an NT file system i.e. not NTFS or FAT3. So it could be a damaged volume.

How about if you run a sfc /scannow
though you will need your XP cd.

Finally my favourite is the checkdisk try running this in the recovery console and hopefully it should fix the problem.
