Network connections empty.

Hey, i have a really bad problem.

When i go to control panel - network connections it is empty and If I click the Advanced menu and then click Advanced Settings, only the [Remote Access connections] entry appears in the Connections list.

In the device manager everything is fine and working.

I do not know how the problem started, just one day i saw that the network connections folder was empty, also on the taskbar, the lan icon was missing.

I have pretty much tried everything.
Updated net adapter drivers.
Deleted the old drivers in safe mode, then re installed the drivers.
I did absolutely everything on the microsoft troubleshoot page.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825826

Everything seems to work fine, i even can connect to the internet with a Buffalo usb air navigator. But i need the lan to connect to lan parties when i participate. I am writing this on my asus eee which is connected to my big computer. I can browse all the files on my big computer with my asus eee and vice versa.

I´m getting quite desperate, I think my only option is to do a windows repair install.

I do not know if this is a spyware or hardware problem. My computer is protected really good. I am using F-secure for spyware and virus protection, just did a full scan and did not find any viruses.

I can run extra tests on the computer if necessary.

Please help me if you can :).

Thanks for reading.

Re: Network connections empty.

Have you tried booting into safe mode to see if it shows up correctly then?

Re: Network connections empty.

Booting in safe mode, made no difference. Network connections still is empty.
Even tried booting in safe mode with networking, still the same.

Re: Network connections empty.

Yes, i do have SP 3 installed, but the hotfix did not help.

If it is malware then how can i find and get rid of it?
Any programs that you can recommend?

Re: Network connections empty.

In your run box type 'services.msc' - this should open the services list - scroll down to 'network connections' -right click on this and select properties - in the box that opens you should see a lookup slot. Select automatic - click apply- and if the start button is lit up click on that also.
This could be a malware issue but try this first.

Re: Network connections empty.

If you suspect malware you need to visit our malware removal forum. We do not help with that in this forum.

Please read “Virus/Trojan/Spyware Removal Help “ and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information in the Virus Help Forum
If you cannot complete any step, just miss it out and do what you can, but be sure to include this information in your post.
Please ensure that you create a new thread in the Virus Help Forum; not back here in this one.

Please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.
