Blue screen STOP error during Gateway Restore
I have a Gateway Laptop NX570X who's Western Digital SATA 80 GB hard drive went out. I bought a replacement Western Digital SATA 120 GB hard drive. (Same model as old one, just bigger capacity). I put the new one in, computer recognizes it fine and such. I then popped in the XP Media Center 2005 Operating System Disc in that Gateway includes with PC's. It will start the recovery process or prepare for it, but will always blue screen eventually. The last blue screen error was STOP 0X0000007D. Any ideas? I tried my own XP Home CD to see if that would go, but that then indicates it doesn't have any hard drive to install on. Again, the BIOS sees the hard drive fine so I'm sure it is hooked up correctly. I had read a little about these recovery CD's not having the proper drivers to do a automated install. Do I maybe need to boot up and format and partition the HD? The recovery CD is supposed to do that. Thanks for any and all help! I appreciate it!

Re: Blue screen STOP error during Gateway Restore
From reading this, it sounds like a memory problem. I would suggest checking your memory using a utility like memtest86 or replace the sticks altogether.
