Re: the device cannot be stoped

Hello Pezzo

'Excelstor' Technology J8080s" is a hard drive.

Is it an external one which you plug in?

Re: the device cannot be stoped

Sorry pezzo, I did not understand your question.

Are you trying to find out why you cannot stop the device?

Try using Process Explorer.

With Process Explorer running, use its Find menu, Find handle or DLL ... function, and search for
\device\harddisk

It will show you all running processes (much better than Task Manager) and will identify them for you. You should be able to see which one is causing the problem.

Re: the device cannot be stoped

Yes, we have a bit of a language problem, but don`t worry, let`s try to make some things clearer.

You have run Process Explorer and it
Quote:
"show me that is 'd' and 'c' "
Are you saying that there are processes on "D" and "C" running?

If Windows is installed on "C", try stopping the "D" entry.

In Process Explorer search for "\device\harddisk "
Can you post a screenshot of what Proces Explorer shows you?

Re: the device cannot be stoped

Sorry if I have miss interpreted the question but
sounds like the "'Excelstor' Technology J8080s" is a sata hard drive split into two partitions, the "safely remove hardware" will be present
as sata supports 'hot swap' if this was not there on your system but just seemed to appear this could of been caused
by a system or driver update. Because of this you will always get an error trying to stop the drive as it will be in use.
If this icon in the system tray is a problem, with some controllers you can add a key to the registry to disable
this feature, although this will stop hot swap on external sata drives using the same controller and is not recommended

Re: the device cannot be stoped

first of all let me point out that this is not a fault with your system
this is how the sata should work
if you want to change this the reg settings if available are dependent on the controller your system uses. I recommend leaving it as is
If you do want to change this there is some info on the reg keys here
http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=430473
remember to back up the registry or set a restore point before making any registry changes
