Norton's Ghost or Drive Image from Powerquest http://www.powerquest.com/
Take your pick as both are now owned by Symantec. Charlie

ghost does, and driveimage does, and the one johnwill mentioned probably does, as i can't see that johnwill would bother mentioning one that didn't make a bootable restore disk.
although, some of these programs must be started with the original boot disk, but i think you won't run into this problem with the three mentioned here.

Acronis
The nice thing about Acronis is that you can mount the image file as a virtual hard drive. So if you ever lose a file, you can open the image, even across a network, and extract the file you need. It's pretty leet.

It's going to be hard to help you with creating a bootable disk with one of these applications until you buy the application!
I use Acronis True Image, and after it's installed, it creates a bootable CD or floppy set to do a restore to a bare disk.

okay i talked to my bro about this idea of of makeing a custom restore disk and he siad it was very hard to make you own BOOTABLE disk. he is a system admin for a collage here. anyway i just wanted to make sure we were all on the same idea. i wanted to like reformat my drive and use my dell restore disk then delete the junk like aol and and all the other junk that they have installed then kinda take a snap shot of that and make my own restore disk with my own custom programs (eg. mirc, msn, firefox, ton of free porn... jk
) the programs you suggest do they make a bootable restore disk as in if i reformat my hard drive and i no long have the program that i use to make the image to resote it or restore it?

I know you cant in Ghost, maybe not in powerquest as it is also owned and updated by Symantec and Im not certain of the Acronis software, perhaps they too have a support forum or FAQ area wheere you can get that info from.

OK, I'm confused. What's the big deal about a single disk? I boot the Acronis True Image Recovery CD, and after it loads, I put in the media for the backup and do the restore. How tough is that?

You don't need two CD's, it works fine with one.

How long does it take to image?
Hi All!
I have a DriveImage 7 and run it on XP. I attempted to create an image on DVD and on HD acorss network. Both methods take more than 4 hours. Is it normal? What did I do wrong? |
