a ghost password....
When i turned my computer on this morning i was asked for my password even though my account doesn't have one.
I've tried this but it didn't help. Blanked out my password, but now i have some kind of account restriction even thou i unlocked it using the linked guide. Last edited by dai : 09-15-2008 at 09:43 AM. Reason: please don't post that link on the forum |

Re: a ghost password....
boot from the xp cd
choose install ignore the first repair option and continue with install when windows finds the previous installation then run the repair if you have a sp installed the disk will need to contain this or it will not offer the repair optoin only the clean install, which will wipe everything

Re: a ghost password....
you said your system restore is on that partition and you also said its 82,48GB NTFS Healthy (type Basic). Did you mean system recovery from the manufacturer? If so, the partition size is much larger than the normal restore partition
what were you doing just prior to the original password problem? Were you trying to change or did you change partition size? go back into disk management and create a screen print showing all of the drives. Post it here. Finally is there anything else on that partition?

Re: a ghost password....
Hi. . .
That is one huge recovery partition!! 82.48gb? s/b ~ 12gb. You mentioned that you can reach the drive from the cmd (DOS) prompt. I'd like to see the Access Control List (ACL), if it will show us. Type or copy/paste the following into the DOS screen - 1 line at a time, of course and hit enter if necessary - (to paste into the DOS screen, right-click at the top, select Edit, select Paste) - 1 - try to change drive to d: - if not that's OK for now 2 - run cacls - notepad will open - save it or paste it & we'll edit 3 - run set - environment variables - paste into post Code:
d: cacls d:\*.* /c > %temp%\tsf1.txt & start notepad %temp%\tsf1.txt set > %temp%\tsf2.txt & start notepad %temp%\tsf2.txt Did you run a chkdsk on drive d:? If not, do so - chkdsk d: /r Regards. . . jcgriff2 EDIT: @sobeit - did not see your post, apologies on dup comments. JC .
