Cry Help Please!!! Cant loging to windows xp!!!

hello there
i have windows xp, yesterday i got a update from "windows update", after restart the computer, got stuck on the windows where you can choose "safe mode, safe mode with network, last good configuration..etc.." but when i tried to log in , it restart again to the same windows,(i tried with all the options), i tried to do a chkdsk /f but it said that the drive cant be repair??.., then i tried to use the windows xp cd to repair the windows, didnt work, say the drive its damaged, or full..so it have to be formatted..... (tried to install a new windows)
so i bought a "new hardrive" cause i dont wanna format that drive , i have a lot of important files...im using the new drive as master and the one that i cant log in as slave....i can see the files...
now...how can i do a "restore point" on the "slave drive" ( so maybe i can restore it that way?), there is anyway to do a restore point manually?, how can i fix that drive?...

thanks for your help!

Hello Dom,

how do you have the issue drive set with the jumpers

as a slave ?

if you have it as a slave then you can move some of your files from one drive to the good drive to free up space

the reason that you might be having all these issues with the issue drive is because it is to full to work so if you free up space then you might beable to get it up & running for windows needs a certain amount of space to properly run and when it runs out it will caues the drive to freeze and then you get those messages

do you know how to work in the registry ?

if you do i have a couple of alterations for you that will enable you to simply move / copy your files from one drive to another

you will be able to move all your files with out having to make any adjustments or wipe any of the drive & quickly

let me know

Mike

hi there, its not full, still got 18 gigabites...so there is plenty of space...
everything started when i did a "windows update on the drive using it as master before" after the update i coulnd log in to windows xp.
i did a chkdsk on my slave, idid it from the master drive (the new one that i got), didnt find anything, then i tried to run the slave as master and gave me this merror message

"Windows could not start because of the following ARC firmware root configuration problem:
did not prperly generate ARC name for HAL and system paths, please check the windows documentation about ARC configuration"

everything went wrong after that update....i cant do a system restore on that drive cause dont let me log in on windows..

Hello Dommiel,

what you may end up having to do is a nondestructive reformat to will will do only a repair to windows software and not touch your data or added programs

but since i know now that you arehaving issues with (ARC & Hal) then i will get you some moer info on those 2 issues

be back in a moment

Re: Help Please!!! Cant loging to windows xp!!!

Hello Dommiel,

check this out

but pay attention to the bottom of the page #15

-------------------------------------

TOP WINDOWS XP SECRETS

Here are the things you probably don't know about Windows XP 1. Useful key shortcuts
available:

- Windows key + D - shows the desktop
- Windows key + M - minimizes all open windows
- Windows key + Shift + M - maximizes all open windows
- Windows key + E - Runs Windows Explorer
- Windows key + R - shows the RUN dialog
- Windows key + F - shows search window
- Windows key + Break - shows System Properties box
- Windows key + TAB - Go though taskbar applications
- ALT + TAB - Cycle through opened applications

2. You can lock Windows to protect the computer when leaving the station easily by creating
a shortcut with the path rundll32.exeuser32.dll, LockWorkStation. The Windows key + L
also a shortcut to this feature.

3. To show all software that can be removed from your computer (including protected Windows services),you can manually edit (using notepad for example) the sysoc.inf file located in Windows\inf\. Just remove the word hide next to the software pack.
*Note* - use this at your own risk. Removing critical components of the system will make Windows instable.

4. Windows XP comes both IPv4 and IPv6 support. To enable IPv6, you can install the protocols needed with command "ipv6 install" in the command-prompt. Then type ipv6 /? to see the options. The installation will not remove the IPv4 protocols so your current configuration will still work.

5. To access the Task Manager easier, you can make a shortcut that points to %windir%\system32\taskmgr.exe.

6. If you don't want your Windows XP to treat ZIP files like folders, you can disable this component by running resvr32 /u zipfldr.dll at the command prompt or Run dialog. If you start missing it, you can enable it by typing regsvr32 zipfldr.dll.

7. You can run a program as a different user. Right click an application and select Run As command.

8.You can switch users leaving the applications too (*Note* use this only when needed since it could be lead to system instability). Go to Task Manager - processes and end the process explorer.exe. This will end your session and not all applications. Then go to applications tab, click New task and type runas /user:domainname\username explorer.exe. A password prompt will appear to login to the desired username. The user's session will start, with all your previously applications running.
I recommend to open first a command-line prompt and type runas /? to see all options available.

9. Rename multiple files in Windows at once. Select them all, right click and select Rename. Enter the desired name. They will be renamed using what you specified, with a number in brackets to distinguish them.

10. Windows has a task kill feature similar to Linux. Go to a command prompt and run the command tasklist to see running processes with PID numbers. Then type tskill <PID> to end the specific task. This forces an instant closing of the task.

11. You can edit many features by running gpedit.msc. You can add log on/log off scripts here and may features.

12.You can edit accounts by running "control userpasswords2" at the command prompt.

13. You can use the systeminfo.exe command prompt to see System Information, including all Windows updates and hotfixes.

14.There are system services that you can disable to free up the system's load. To access the interface that permits you make changes to system's services, type services.msc and the command prompt.

This is a list of services that are *usually* useless and can be safely disabled.
Alerter
Application Layer gateway Service,
Application Management
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer
Clipbook
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Distributed Transaction Coordinator
Error Reporting Service
Fast User Swiching Compatibility
IMAPI CD-Burning
Indexing Service
IPSEC Services
Messenger
Net Logon
Net Meeting
Remote Desktop Sharing
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
Portable Media Serial Number
Remote Registry
Secondary Logon
Smartcard
SSDP Discovery Service
Uninterruptible Power Supply
Universal Plug and Play Device Host
Upload Manager
Webclient
Wireless Zero Configuration
WMI Performance Adaptor

*Note* make sure you don't need them since some applications depend on them. If you make any application to fail by disabling any of the services, go back and enable it again

15.If your system fails to start due to an error related to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run "attrib -H -R -S'' on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Run "Bootcfg /Rebuild" and then Fixboot.

Re: Help Please!!! Cant loging to windows xp!!!

hi there, i did it but didnt work.
gave this message in the screen where suposed to "repair"
"the partition is either too full, damaged, not formatted, or formatted with incompatible file system, to continue installing windows, setup must format this partition"

is not full still have 17+ gigs, maybe should trying this other way

" 15.If your system fails to start due to an error related to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run "attrib -H -R -S'' on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Run "Bootcfg /Rebuild" and then Fixboot"

i can get to that screen where you do the recovery console and take you to c:/
but i dont know what to type after c:/
do i need to delete the boot.ini file ? and then run it from the cd?...im lost on that part.

now...if i can see the files when i put that drive on "slave"... there is anyway to fix it from there?..like going to the windows folder and delete the last update?

Thanks for your help and time

Re: Help Please!!! Cant loging to windows xp!!!

ok now i have a another problem... (im this close to kill my pc i swear...i just gonna get a hammer and smash this @$#!$!)

now the drive that im trying to fix is not showing as "slave" anymore...i conect the cables go to Bios and only show one drive as master( the good one), now if i switch the hard drives and i conect only the hard drive that i tried to fix , it shows as "master" but i cant log in...and if i tried to conect the good one as master and the bad one as Slave, dont work only show the good hard drive as master, i dont know why(it was working before, the good one as master and the bad one as slave)...i thought maybe the drive that i was trying to fix went "dead" but if i conect just that one as master it shows on the BIOS...but i cant log in with that one cause the windows problem...

Hello Dommiel,

okay

now to let you know you will have issues working on that drive with it being set as a slave

and since you are having issues with it set as a master

see if this would be an option for you

follow this link

http://www.informationweek.com/share...leID=189400897

read all instructions first & maybe print them out !!

you will have to remove the good drive compleatly

you will have to set your system to boot from the cd rom in the bios

this will not cause you to loose any data or any installed programs

it will take about an hr to compleat & you will have to re download all the microsoft updates & security patchs

Let me know
