Question [SOLVED] how do you set file permissions with xp pro service pack 3

I am having problems settting the permissions in xp pro with service pack 3 for some reason it does not show the options like plain xp pro what happend with the sp3 update???? Let me see if I can find a way to post an attachment of a screen shot of what I am dealing with here, it is totally confusing, there is no setting permissions option at all???? Ok attachments is no working what is the problem here, I have an attachment of a screenshot, this should show you what I am talking about , This makes no sense what happened to the easy way? is there any way now? do I have to reinstall xp pro and turn off auto updates to make it the old easy way to set file permissions, I just built this comp and like 5 others, and the sp3 update came out at the same time now some things do not look the same. I first put vista on this comp I am using thinking that it had improved and would work, what a +_*)&^ joke that was, I opened up the control panel only to find it totally empty,I tried updating , blah blah blah , blah blah, went back to xp just to function, i am running a 4800+ amd x2 brisbane 65nm, 2 gigs ram, I have the rest of the spec somewhere around here but none of that affects how my os works. Has anyone seen this before or have any idea what is going on here? Any help is well wished for.

Hi computerdummy08 and welcome to TSF !

You mean there's no security tab when you right-click a file then click on properties ?

Make sure you've disabled simple file sharing : my computer => tools => folder options => view => untick "use simple file sharing" (bottom of the list).

Thanks I have never had that problem before. That was exactly the problem. I am not sure I have ever seen that simple folder sharing option before.

Re: how do you set file permissions with xp pro service pack 3

The default option, even with SP2 was to have Simple File sharing enabled in XP Pro so that hasn't changed with SP3.
